Match report
Fitzroy Doncaster won the toss and were sent out to field first at Schramms Reserve, and Essendon made themselves comfortable early. Muhammad Arsalan and Joshua Trembearth both fell inside the first ten overs, but the total crept along until a middle-order wobble saw Harry Duke, Emerson White and Liam Molloy all go in the space of a few overs, leaving Essendon 5/47. From there Ikroop Dhanoa and Connor Poulton steadied things, and Poulton went on to make 65 before the pair put on 96 for the seventh wicket, the biggest stand of the innings. Once Poulton was caught by Bread off Braden Taeuber, Essendon lost three wickets for 26 runs and slid from there to all out for 221 off 78.2 overs. Dhanoa carried his bat for an unbeaten 75. With the ball, Taeuber was the pick of the attack with 5/60, Rupptaz Kharoud — Tazzy — backed him up superbly with 4/34 including two maidens, and Gurnaz Khatra, G-naz, bowled tightly for 1/40 with five maidens in his fourteen overs. In reply, Fitzroy Doncaster lost early wickets regularly through the middle overs, with Liam Winn, Angus Roach, Jack Rudd, G-naz and Matthew Spoors all back in the sheds inside 27 overs, a stretch that cost three wickets for 34 runs between the third and sixth wickets. Zachary Elliott followed shortly after, bowled by Nicholas McGuane, leaving the innings needing a substantial rebuild at 6/78. That rebuild came from Samuel Elliott and Bread, who put together 108 for the seventh wicket to drag the innings back into contention. Elliott's 64 was the top score of the innings before he was bowled by Noman Safdar, and Ejaaz Alavi went lbw to Safdar shortly after, but Bread stayed unbeaten to the end on 53. Jack Rudd's 30 earlier in the innings had also played its part in keeping the chase alive through the tough middle overs. Noman Safdar was the difference for Essendon with the ball, taking 6/74 off 22 overs including six maidens, with Lachie Busk and Nicholas McGuane chipping in with a wicket apiece. Fitzroy Doncaster closed on 8/222 off 61 overs, overhauling Essendon's total to win by 2 wickets — a result built on Tazzy and Taeuber's early inroads with the ball, and sealed by the Elliott–Bread stand that steadied the chase when it mattered most.
